Liza shows her heart as she headlines charity fashion show

With legendary singer Liza Minnelli finishing the show with a song, no-one could blame the models at this year's Heart Truth Fashion Show for casting aside their usual runway struts and dancing their way down the catwalk.

The iconic star of Cabaret was just one of twenty inspirational women of today to don a red dress – or, in Liza's unique style, a glitzy tunic and red-trimmed trousers – to raise awareness of the dangers of heart disease.

"Nothing draws attention like a little red dress," said guest speaker First Lady Laura Bush, the US ambassador of the campaign, who enjoyed a front-row view of the New York event.

Certainly making sure she drew attention was ubermodel Heidi Klum, who shimmied her way along the runway in a skimpy Marc Jacobs number. "It's small, but it's cute. I like it," she said.

Nor was the Project Runway star shy in showing how much she was enjoying herself. The German beauty blew giant kisses to the cheering audience before planting a huge smacker on Liza too.

Getting the glamorous event off in style was Las Vegas actress Molly Sims, sparkling in a ruby-red Daniel Swarovski covered in 94,000 crystals, followed by a host of stars from fashion, music and film who couldn't hide their delight in being there.

"Last night I couldn’t sleep a wink I was so excited," revealed Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz, in a strapless Badgley Mishka. Meanwhile, singer Joss Stone, dressed in an elegant Max Azria Atelier number, put her own stamp on the show. The British star made sure there would be no trip-ups and took to the catwalk barefoot.
