Fashion maestro Karl Lagerfeld debuts lookalike Steiff bear

29 AUGUST 2008
With his uber-cool sunglasses, high collar and KL belt buckle, there is no doubt who the latest celebrity bear from legendary teddy manufacturers Steiff is intended to represent. In a publicity photo the exclusive alpaca bear and the fashion designer who inspired him - Karl Lagerfeld - are as alike as two peas in a pod.

Karl, 74, teamed up with German luxury toymakers Steiff, which invented the teddy bear in 1902, to create the 40cm-high limited edition figure.

Only 2,500 of the 750 soft toys - each of which has a gold version of the signature Steiff button in its ear - will be made. And the fashion maestro has apparently already made sure one of them will remain with him.

The bears go on sale next month at Neiman Marcus department store in New York.
