The legs have it: fashionistas make awards night a brief affair

A parade of leggy lovelies defied the sub-zero temperatures in London to attend the British Fashion awards in daring minis. One willowy beauty stood out in particular - Jourdan Dunn, who was named Model Of The Year, setting the seal on a meteoric rise that started with her discovery in a Primark store.

Jade Jagger also turned heads in a brief satin number, her cleavage draped in ropes of Chanel pearls. Model of the moment Alice Dellal upped the anti even further in a punky T-shirt dress and fishnet tights.

Her friend Pixie Geldof had gone for rather more coverage in leggings, but made her own statement in a barely there chain-mail top and glass sandals.

Even pregnant Sophie Ellis Bextor took a short and sweet approach, covering her baby bump in a black Topshop dress teamed with white tights.

All the emphasis on hemlines was almost enough to distract from the serious business of the evening, the award giving.

Tamara Mellon, boss of Jimmy Choo, had the satisfaction of seeing her global shoe empire recognised as the designer brand of 2009, while king of boho chic Matthew Williamson took away the red carpet designer of the year trophy.
