Sometimes there's a trend that catches the imagination because it makes women of every shape and age look and feel fabulous.
Think of the LBD, a well-cut pair of jeans or a classic winter coat.
For celebrities that has become Victoria Beckham's signature design: her modern take on 'ladies who lunch' attire.
A few months ago Elle Macpherson was seen in the £2,095 Carmontelle cashmere-blend number, featuring a peplum frill at the waist.
You would expect a model famously known as The Body to be able to pull off a garment created by the slender Mrs Beckham.
But then Carol Vorderman appeared wearing in it at a red carpet event this week.
The former Countdown presenter had previously complained about the travails of having a "BB" – big bottom – as she described her generous derriere, which she said was common in her family.
It's the second time 48-year-old Carol has opted for an item from Victoria's collection to such great effect.
No one would disagree that the LGD, teamed with strappy skyscraper sandals and chunky silver jewellery, made the most of her hourglass figure.
