Emma Watson mingles with fashion elite as she steps out on the New York scene

At just 19 years old, Emma Watson is already a top ambassador for British fashion. As the face of Burberry and a devotee to all things à la mode, it was entirely fitting that the young actress found herself rubbing shoulders with the queen of Vogue, and fellow English expat, Anna Wintour. Emma's appearance alongside the renowned magazine editor marked a rare foray into the New York scene.

Wearing a striking leather and lace embroidered Christopher Kane dress, the Paris-born star made her way down from nearby Rhode Island, where she is attending Brown University, to help co-host an evening celebrating British fashion in the Big Apple.

The festivities signalled the end of an initiative that took place in New York this month to showcase the best of London's leading emerging designers. Meanwhile, with part one of the final Harry Potter instalment not due for release until November, Emma has plenty of time to focus on her studies.

She is currently reading literature at the Ivy League university and recently took to the stage in an amateur production of Anton Checkov's Three Sisters, starring as Olga Sergeyevna. Her starring role in the play was reportedly down to her new love interest, Rafael Cebrian, who is a member of the university theatre group. She became close to the Spanish musician, and fellow Brown student, last November, and it recently emerged she has ended her relationship with her financier boyfriend of two years, Jay Barrymore.

Speaking about the pretty brunette's appearance with the student-run group, a source told the Sun: "Emma was nervous beforehand, but she was faultless in her role. She has been juggling coursework with rehearsals and learning lines, so she has a lot on her plate." Emma was over the moon that every show was a full house. She also made some new friends while doing it." And, luckily for the production, Emma waived usual her £10 million-a-film fee.
