Wild at heart: per una

Fashion collections for next autumn/winter are taking a walk on the wild side with the law of the jungle ruling on many catwalks.

It was an exotic mix, with extravagant leopard and zebra spots and tiger stripes, psychedelic furs at Tom Ford and intricately cut, shaved and sculptured furs conjured up by Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi.

Other designer labels preferred a more gentle approach, with the likes of DKNY, Moschino Cheap & Chic and Diane Von Furstenberg taking the print route. Even Christopher Bailey went a little wild in his Burberry Prorsum collection, imprinting trench coats, pencil skirts, sheath dresses, tops and accessories with bold zebra stripes, giraffe patterns and leopard spots.

For the new season, per una has focused on a luxurious snow leopard print, making it a feature of one of its first autumn collections. One of the key pieces is the per una Speziale snow leopard jacket in black, Italian stretch Jacquard, with the soft spots printed in black and ivory on the zippered front panels and sleeves.

There is a matching pencil skirt, similarly tailored in contrast panels, and a structured, slightly body-con dress, also in the plain black with snow leopard-print panels, featuring short-sleeves and slanted, zippered pockets set just above the hips.

Mixed in with the leopard print are plain pieces in magenta and black, such as a magenta three-quarter-sleeve, draped cowl-neck top in sand-washed modal and a black straight-leg jean with stretch. Just add the snow leopard jacket for some extra animal magnetism.
