New mum Keira Knightley made red carpet maternity style look effortless throughout awards season thanks to some help from her stylist and friend, Leith Clark. The stylist, who has worked with Keira for the last five years, said she was mindful of creating looks that would help Keira to feel comfortable while staying true to her personal style.

"I had just been pregnant so it was still really fresh in my head and I think especially on the red carpet pregnancy looks like a hindrance; people don't look comfortable or free," Leith told Fashionista at the launch of her design collaboration with Orla Kiely. "The nicest thing when you're pregnant is to feel like clothes can help you want to go out in the world, want to keep doing the things you did before and feel beautiful and graceful and strong, not stuck and constrained."

Leith added that Keira's red carpet looks worked so well because of the trusting relationship they have developed over the past few years.

"A lot of times – there was an Orla dress, and we just moved the waistline up. Because I knew from my own body, you just move things up a little bit, and there's a lot of clothes that were in the collections anyway that didn't need a lot of fixing," she said.

"It's the incorrect feeling that you have to wear fitted things, because you don't. If something's fluid and loose and loves the bump it makes you feel more comfortable and more confident and more beautiful – she just really trusted me," Leith added. "A lot of them, we didn't even do fittings. I would literally go, 'this is the dress' and she'd say okay and we would make it work.

"She's easy to make look great though, it's nice to make her happy."

Keira said she preferred to wear loose clothes during her pregnancy

Keira previously spoke about her maternity style at the SAG Awards, joking that her "waist has disappeared". The 30-year-old echoed the thoughts of her stylist by saying she didn't want to wear tight clothes when she was expecting.

"Does it make it harder? It just means that you're not going to wear anything tight, for me," she told E! News. "Actually people do wear tight things don't they, when they're pregnant. I don't want to go for that. There we go, so it's just all quite loose, which is quite nice. I'm quite comfortable."
