'I like to look my best': Dita Von Teese reveals inspiration behind new dress line

She already counts herself as a burlesque dancer, model, lingerie designer and actress. But that's clearly not enough for enterpeneur Dita Von Teese, who has made her first foray into dress designing. The burlesque quen has released a capsule range of five dresses, which take inspiration from her own uber-glamorous, retro style. "I saw a very famous designer, who shall remain unnamed, in a vintage boutique in LA," Dita said, explaining her choice to release the eponymous collection.

"He was there with his whole team and they were taking pictures for pieces to inspire his next collection. I just thought to myself: 'There's no reason why I couldn't do that.' Vintage stores are where I buy all my clothes - I love the thrill of the hunt." The range of frocks, priced between £373 and £620 and named the Bon Bon Dress, the Follow Me Dress, the Second Look Dress and the Showcase Dress, are beautifully feminine and oozed the elegance that Dita is famous for. The look is reminiscent of a time when class and glamour werekey, which is in contrast to the more casual, laid-back look of today. "That never worked for me," she said. "Any time I feel like being lazy, I think: 'The day I don't dress up, that's when I'll run into my ex-boyfriend – or worse, his new girlfriend. I feel better about myself when I look my best. I always find the time to put on my powder and do my chignon."

In the interview with Vogue, she also revealed that her ultimate style icon is Diane Kruger, who "is one of the only high-profile names I know who, like me, doesn't have a stylist." And the raven-haired beauty talked about her respect for British fashion. "You do well in the winter and are very good at picking great coats," she said. "In LA, no one really thinks about the important of a great coat – they can't be bothered. It's always better when people take their time with these things." The line consists of three LBDs – all figure hugging and midi-length, while a stunning black coat is also included, as well as a floral, pale blue maxidress. With her old Hollywood glamour, side-swept curls, sizzling scarlett lipstick and seductive gaze, Dita is typically sultry as she models the items.

The 40-year-old recently launched a line of lingerie, stepping out for the launch of the new collection in London appropriately vamped it up in velvet. The midnight blue figure-hugging number was low enough to show off her ample cleavage, as well as one of her lacy black bra designs. During the event at London's Oxford Street branch of department store Debenhams the 40-year-old said: "I am thrilled to be able to launch this signature collection at Debenhams and make these exquisite, vintage-inspired designs available to women throughout the UK. "I wanted to create pieces that enhance the feminine silhouette and make each woman who wears my range feel sexy and glamorous. Each piece is homage to femininity and a reflection of my love of vintage glamour."
