Designers Prabal Gurung, Reed Krakoff, Bibhu Mohapatra and Maria Cornejo are amongst those who will participating in the workshop.

"On October 8, the White House will hold a fashion education workshop that will connect students with leading fashion professionals," a White House official told WWD.

"From designers to magazine editors to fashion technologists – to show young people what it takes to succeed and how important it is for the next generation to commit to their education."

Michelle Obama is renowned for championing lesser known designers, and famously chose to wore a design by Jason Wu for both the 2009 and 2013 Inaugural Balls, catapulting the young designer to international fame.

After the workshop, the First Lady will be hosting a Celebration of Design evening reception, with designers Diane Von Furstenberg and Thakoon reportedly set to attend.
