There’s a new global sisterhood movement sweeping through the worlds of fashion, arts and politics – largely being driven by social media and hashtag activism. Hollywood women are leading the way, increasingly vocal in their call for equal pay and meatier roles.

Female directors like Sofia Coppola are employing other women to star in their films and winning awards for them as she did at Cannes this year when she became only the second woman to pick up the coveted Best Director prize in the festival’s 70-year history.

For her debut Dior show, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri tapped into empowerment with her bold ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ tees, inspired by Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED talk. Explaining her decision to inject feminism into the 70-year-old fashion house, Maria Grazia said: “If Dior is about femininity, then it is about women. And not about what it was to be a woman 50 years ago, but to be a woman today.”
