After experiencing all elements of cold weather over the last few months, we are ready for summer. First of all its time to tackle swinter, the awkward few weeks at the end of winter and beginning of spring when we have no idea what to wear due to the unpredictable weather. Here at HFM we have put together a guide of seven swinter staples that will be suitable in either rain or shine! So sit back, relax, and start adding to your shopping cart.

Kick flare jeans, £40, Topshop

Flared denim will give your everyday outfit a seventies feel. This purse-friendly pair from Topshop are mid-rise with a washed denim effect and offer cropped hems with frayed detail. Wear in winter with an oversized vibrant jumper to give your outfit a pop of colour on a dull day. Layer up with a boxy leather biker jacket and cosy scarf. Complete your look with a pair of block heel ankle boots, which are practical and on trend for the colder weather. Wear in spring with a lightweight patterned blouse. Opt for a pair of flat embroidered mules (or go for heels depending on the occasion) with a neutral saddle bag.

A straight midi-dress will make the cut whatever the weather. This striped tunic dress from Zara gives a hint of colour with a belted waist and side slits to add classic feminine style.  Wear in winter with black tights and co-ordinating ankle boots. Choose a dark red or black boyfriend coat and suede shopper to upgrade your usual office outfit.  Wear in spring with a pair of strappy sandals or a classic court shoe and your favourite designer tote bag. With waved hair and a flick of red lipstick you'll be ready to face the day!

You'll be surprised at just how much wear you can get out of that little black dress hiding in your wardrobe. This cute polka-dot number from Maje has a ruched detail bodice with thin straps. Polka dots are also hot off the catwalk and are on trend for SS18. Wear in winter with a black roll-neck underneath and a pair of plain black tights with cute flats or flat knee high boots with a matching leather bag. Wear in spring with a white t-shirt underneath or alone depending on the temperature! Add an androgynous edge with a pair of white trainers and a leather backpack.

The beauty of the trench coat is that it's not only an iconic jacket, it's also extremely versatile. Epaulettes, lapels and a belt with buckle detail give that formal look which can be toned down by what is worn underneath. Wear in winter with a leather pencil skirt, bold floral print shirt and pointed toe ankle boots. Wear in spring with fitted black track pants, an oversized block colour t-shirt and a pair of Adidas Stan Smiths.

A denim jacket is an essential piece and the ultimate in-between season jacket to layer over a casual outfit. Wear in winter with a trench coat layered over the top. If the denim jacket sleeves are longer, fold them over the cuffs of the trench. Pair with a brightly coloured roll neck jumper and black wide legged trousers. Wear in spring with more denim, dare to pair the jacket with a matching pair of high waist jeans with a black bodysuit underneath. Add a pop of colour with a pair of orange caged mules and a matching shopper for everyday chic.
