Ever since her engagement to Prince Harry was first announced, the Duchess of Sussex has swiftly become one of the world's foremost style icons. Her trademark chic-with-a-quirky-twist looks have gone down a hit with fashion fans around the globe, and 'The Meghan Effect' has lead to sell-outs of similar-looking items. However, there's one style detail than avid Meghan fans may be a little perplexed by. The Duchess is regularly spotted wearing shoes that appear too big for her.
Meghan teamed her black shoes with a white Givenchy dress at Ascot
Look closely at pictures of Meghan at official events and it's easy to see her shoes often gape slightly around her feet. Most recently, the black high heeled court shoes she wore to Royal Ascot on June 19 appeared too large. However, according to The Sun, there's a very clever reason behind this. Stylist Harriet Davey told the paper: "Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet and it's for one reason we can all relate to – to avoid blisters.

"There's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up." She explained: "The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions – like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumoured to suffer with."
Harriet also revealed that celebs have a few tricks up their sleeves to ensure they can walk in too-big shoes. "A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool,” she said. “This can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes."

Other occasions when Meghan wore too-big shoes include the nude strappy sandals she teamed with a white coat while announcing her engagement, and the brown velour pumps she was spotted in while visiting Northern Ireland with Harry.
