The beautiful $150,000 custom-made Calvin Klein dress worn to this year's Oscars by Lupita Nyong'o has been stolen from a hotel room in Hollywood. The white gown, studded with 6,000 natural white pearls, was taken from the London Hotel in West Hollywood while the 31-year-old actress was out of the room. The jaw-dropping dress was one of the most talked-about outfits on the red carpet – and was also probably the heaviest. It was designed by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, who worked closely with Lupita to create the gown.

Lieutenant William Nash of the LA County Sheriff’s Department, said the dress appeared to have been stolen on Wednesday evening, and said that officers were checking CCTV footage. He confirmed that there was no forced entry into the room, and that nothing else was taken during the daring theft. Lupita, who was born in Mexico but raised in Kenya, was waiting for the investigators when they arrived at the hotel. The incident took place just three days after she returned to the Oscars after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress last year for 12 Years A Slave.

"This year the pressure's off," she told E! host Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. "I can just dress up and enjoy the show." She also spoke about her show-stopping gown as she arrived for 2015 ceremony. "I'm just wearing diamonds and pearls. My homage to (musician) Prince," she told Associated Press. "We talked about it being fluid and liquid. I wanted it to be a homage to the sea." Lupita, who served as a presenter at the star-studded event, changed out of the Calvin Klein gown before heading to the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party on Sunday night. So far, Calvin Klein have not commented on the theft. No arrests have been made.
