Kim Kardashian, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Karlie Kloss and Sarah Jessica Parker were just some of the industry's biggest style icons who graced the red carpet at the 2015 Met Ball on Monday night. Fully embracing the theme, 'China: Through the Looking Glass', the stars stepped out in intricately detailed gowns with floral patterns and shimmering embellishment, to edgy cropped trousers with fringed detailing.

Rihanna wowed in Guo Pei haute couture

Rihanna stole the show and topped best-dressed lists worldwide when she stepped out in a jaw-dropping yellow dress from Guo Pei haute couture. The gown was teamed with a dramatic yellow embroidered cape, which covered most of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's infamous staircase as she posed for the cameras.

Jennifer Lawrence, who was co-hosting the event, also pulled out all the stops, giving fans a glimpse of her toned stomach in a sleek gown with cut-out detail – the skirt of the gown was black, but the bodice had a colourful floral pattern, a subtle nod to the evening's theme. The Hunger Games star completed the look by wearing her hair in a slightly dishevelled updo.

Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West once again established themselves as fashion's ultimate power couple. Kim showed off her world-famous figure in a sultry gown with silver embellishment, sheer detailing and a feathered train. The star was accompanied by husband Kanye who wore one of his trademark all-black ensembles.

They were not the only couple to wow at the glitzy event - Beyoncé and Jay Z also made a flawless appearance. Beyoncé gave fans a glimpse of her enviable curves in a daring number by Givenchy with multi-coloured sequinned embellishment. She wore her blonde locks in a high ponytail and opted for barely-there make-up. Meanwhile, Jay Z looked as dapper as ever in a sleek black tuxedo.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen delighted fans with a rare red carpet appearance, both looking effortlessly cool in black gowns. As fashion-forward as ever, their beautiful dresses were vintage Dior by John Galliano.
