The 39-year-old turned to celebrity favourite Cushnie et Ochs for her show-stopping gown, which is part of their Autumn/Winter 2015 collection. She completed the look with black stilettos but opted for almost no accessories save a pair of sparkling statement earrings.

Renowned for her flawless hair and beauty looks, Charlize did not disappoint, wearing her blonde locks back in a sleek ponytail and rocking smokey eye make-up for an elegant finish.

The actress was in high spirits as she presented the Genius Award to her A Million Ways to Die in the West co-star Seth MacFarlane, whom she warmly embraced as he took to the stage to claim his award. The blonde beauty also made the audience chuckle as she quipped that he had only created the comedy western film as a "$40million excuse" to kiss her.

It seems Charlize has a lot to smile about – not only has new film Mad Max: Fury Road been a box office success, but she is also currently enjoying a blossoming romance with fellow Hollywood star Sean Penn – the couple went public with their relationship last year. The South African star recently opened up about Sean, describing him as "the love of my life".

Sean and Chalize began work together on romantic drama The Last Face in summer 2014, with him directing and her taking on a starring role. "There were times when I was incredibly unfair to him," she told Elle, speaking about trying to find a balance between the pair's personal and professional lives. "And moments where I felt like… he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realise that no matter how complicated it gets the priority is the relationship."

She added: "Putting aside that he's my partner, he's the love of my life. For the first time I felt my work was bleeding into my life and that made it hard."
