Part of the group of the original 90s supermodels, Cindy Crawford is one of the world's most recognisable faces. However, the 49-year-old has confessed that she is envious of the new generation of models including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid because of a significant change in the industry.

Cindy Crawford admitted she is 'jealous' of young models such as Kendall or Gigi

"I'm a little bit jealous that they have social media," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that through the use of social media, they are better able to shape their own image. I think my generation of models, we were perceived the way we were, you know, through our pictures."

The mother-of-two admitted that she admired the rising superstars, often dubbed 'Instagirls', because of how they have used tools such as Instagram or Twitter to build their brand.

"On social media, you can create or just illuminate your own image," she explained. "And I think some of the young models are really good at it."

Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid regularly share snaps from their campaigns on Instagram

Cindy is not the first supermodel to open up about the effect social media has had on the industry. Naomi Campbell spoke candidly earlier this year and revealed she felt success had "come just like that" for younger stars thanks to the ever-expanding world of social media.

"I just feel like my generation of women, like Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Claudia [Schiffer]," she said during an appearance on The Meredith Viera Show, "We had to earn our stripes and take our stepping stones to get to where we have gotten, to accomplish what we have achieved to this date.

"I kind of feel like, 'My God, we've worked so hard and we are still working at it, then it just comes like that for them.' But I sometimes believe 'easy come, easy go'. So I am actually grateful for the way I had my career. I wouldn't want it any other way. So that's for them, this is me."
