Melania Trump looked glamorous in gold as she joined husband Donald Trump at a pre-inauguration candlelight dinner in Union Station, Washington on Thursday evening.

The 46-year-old gave us a glimpse at what we may be able to expect from her First Lady fashion choices in a gold embellished gown from Lebanese-born, New York-based designer Reem Acra.

The shimmering gown featured long sleeves and a high neckline, and perfectly showcased Melania's slim figure. The former model completed the look with a glossy blow dry, dark eye make-up and pink lip gloss.

Meanwhile her stepdaughter Ivanka, 35, looked equally elegant in a monochrome gown from Carolina Herrera. The floor-length dress white dress featured cap sleeves and a wide black waistband that tied into a dramatic bow at the back.

Ivanka opted for matching monochrome accessories to complement her gown, including statement fanned earrings, with her blonde hair tied back into a low bun.

Completing the fashionable First Family line-up was Donald's youngest daughter Tiffany Trump. The 23-year-old wore a custom embellished gown from New York-based designer Anne Bowen.

The silver full-length dress was covered with Swarovski crystals and delicate lace, with a metallic belt to cinch in her waist. Tiffany accessorised with a couple of bangles, styling her long blonde hair into loose curls.

Earlier in the day Melania had made an equally stylish appearance in a custom ensemble from Norisol Ferrari. The fashion designer said she had been "honoured" to dress the new First Lady for the occasion, and also addressed the issue of designers publicly refusing to dress Melania in an interview with WWD.

"I am absolutely opposed to discrimination in any way," she said. "I wanted to give her her own voice. Empowering women is all that matters to me. I do not discriminate whether for race, religion, colour of skin, sexuality, political affiliation — what have you. No, I do not believe in it in any form."

Norisol continued: "I really saw a person who is being misunderstood who is being scrutinised. She's a woman and a mother and I am pro-woman. That at the end of the day is very important to me - equality for women and for all human beings. If that's what I really believe, I had to do it."
