But how does the programme work? Well, each item being sold can be sent to eBay’s authentication centre and put through a detailed multi-point physical inspection to confirm its genuineness. Working with industry experts, eBay will fully verify a product’s stitching, leather, and overall quality.

Before listing, trainers costing over £100, watches over £1,500 and handbags over £500 can be sent for this evaluation at no extra cost to the buyer or seller.

Looking for a dazzling watch for that special someone? Or perhaps a leather clutch is more their style? Simply look out for a small blue tick next to the listing and you’ll know the item is authenticated and been thoroughly reviewed by eBay’s authentication centre.
