Stateside fans of EastEnders, which was taken off BBC America in September because of its failure to attract viewers, have been joined by Hollywood couple Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt in a petition to put the show back on the air.

And the Friends star and her hunky hubby, who are among nearly 14,000 American followers of the TV soap to sign the petition, have added an extra plea of their own: "Bring it back."

Longtime fans Brad and Jen are among a slew of famous faces to declare their affection for the show. Robbie Williams once made a cameo appearance, while Madonna is said have angled for a one-off role. Other US fans include Cher, Liza Minnelli and Tomb Raider beauty Angelina Jolie, who apparently became an avid viewer of the show while filming in England.

"It seems everybody watches EastEnders, including megastars," Queen Vic landlord Shane Ritchie said recently, adding: "Elton John has told me he wants to appear."
