See video footage of Salma in Sierra Leone
While her action has drawn comment around the world, to Salma Hayek in the circumstances it seemed the most natural thing to do. When on a charity mission to Sierra Leone the Hollywood actress came across a fellow mother unable to provide milk for her malnourished five-month-old son, she breast-fed the tot herself.
"The baby was perfectly healthy, but the mother didn't have milk," said the 42-year-old, who is mum to a one-year-old girl. "He was very hungry. I was weaning my daughter Valentina, but I still had a lot of milk that I was pumping, so I breast-fed the baby. When he felt the nourishment, he immediately stopped crying."
The moment was caught on film by US TV crews as Mexican beauty Salma toured a hospital in the African country. She was there in her capacity as a Unicef ambassador, to help raise awareness about the dangers of tetanus.
