Emma Thompson releases her inner Morris dancer at husband's premiere - with bells on

Emma Thompson came up with a novel way to solve the problem of finding a glamorous dress worthy of a premiere this week.

Not afraid to send herself up, the English actress donned some Morris dancing regalia to support the premiere of her husband Greg Wise's latest film.

And she really went to town. The Harry Potter star's ensemble included a hat embellished with bright flowers, a traditional stick, ribbons and black and white shoes.

Fortunately for good-humoured Emma, she was in excellent company.

Colourful Morris men performed for the crowd in Leicester Square to celebrate the unveiling of a new mock documentary about the folk pastime.

Titled Morris: A Life With Bells On It, the film stars Derek Jacobi, Jason Isaacs and Naomie Harris alongside Greg.

It follows the fortunes of the Millsham Morris, one of the leading teams in the country, as they struggle to evolve their craft.

Speaking at the premiere, Sir Derek, who plays a traditionalist, said the film was made with "no budget, no money, but a lot of heart, love and passion."

He added his hopes that the film will help Morris dancing flourish saying: "It’s a wonderfully eccentric part of English tradition. It's quintessentially English."

For lead actor Charles Thomas Oldham, who also wrote and produced the film, there was a simple reason for embarking on the project.

"I was immersed in Morris dancing from a young age," explained the actor, who stars as Derecq Twist. "It's in my DNA."
