Twilight girls vamp it up as Robert Pattinson and fellow stars of 'New Moon' shine in LA After a whirlwind of fan parties across Europe, the stars of vampire saga Twilight were in LA to officially launch New Moon, the second instalment of the series.

All eyes were on rumoured couple Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who were careful not to be photographed together all night.

Instead Kristen posed on the red carpet with co-star Taylor Lautner and told reporters the night should be a celebration of his work.

"I'm so proud of that kid," said the 19-year-old actress, who eschewed her usual rock chick look for an elegant Oscar de la Renta gown.

"He's taught me more than I've ever been able to bestow on him. I think he's the most centred of everybody here."

The biggest screams of the night from fans – many of whom had camped overnight to be sure of getting a glimpse of their idols – were reserved for Robert, dapper in a smart suit.

Also at the premiere of the film – which opens in the UK and US this Friday – was Dakota Fanning. The War Of The Worlds actress, who plays evil vampire Jane in the film, looked all grown-up in a lacy black dress by Valentino.

Meanwhile British actor Michael Sheen was accompanied by his excited daughter Lily, who is a massive fan of the Twilight books.

It was Michael's ten-year-old daughter with Kate Beckinsale who inspired him to take the part of Volturi vampire clan leader Aro in the big-screen version of the second book.

Guests at the world premiere included Birmingham-born TV presenter Cat Deeley, who attended with her actor boyfriend Jack Huston.
