"Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins have announced that they separated over the summer," confirmed the couple's spokesperson this week, adding that no further comment would be made.
The couple, who never married, met on the set of 1988 film Bull Durham. They have two sons together - Jack, 20, and Miles, 17.
In addition Susan also has a 24-year-old daughter, Eva, from a previous relationship with director Franco Amurri.
Sixty-three-year-old Susan, was previously married to Chris Sarandon, whom she met in college.
The last time Tim and Susan were pictured together was in July, when they attended a Nelson Mandela Day celebration concert together in New York.
They were both greatly admired in showbusiness circles for their long and strong relationship despite their age difference – she's 12 years older than 51-year-old Tim.
Over the course of their relationship the couple worked together again. Susan won an Oscar for her role in Dead Man Walking, which was directed by Tim.
