The thought of Tom Cruise blasting off into space might sound like something from one of his big blockbuster films, but it could soon become a reality. The Hollywood superstar has revealed he would love to go into orbit as a passenger on one of Virgin boss Richard Branson's upcoming commercial space flights. "Who wouldn't want to do something like," the all-action A-lister said as he promoted sci-fi film Oblivion in Russia this week. "I'm going to let a couple of other people test it out first," he joked, "But it would be great."
"I was always hoping when I was a kid that we would be traveling to different planets by now."Tom, 50, also revealed that he is open to the idea of extraterrestrials. "I don't think you can actually count it out," he said. "It might be a little arrogant to think we were the only ones in all the galaxies throughout the universe - but I've never met one!"Should the War of the Worlds star decide to pay £130,000 for a seat on Virgin Galactic's upcoming two-hour mission, he would reportedly join other famous amateur astronauts like Ashton Kutcher and comedian Russell Brand.The trip will last two hours and take passengers to 60 miles above earth, where they will reportedly experience weightlessness and see the earth's curve.Tom will certainly be well prepared for the experience; he once flew a space shuttle simulator at Nasa's space centre in Houston, Texas.
