Britain's most loved soap stars: then and now

The 2014 British Soap Awards are airing on our TV screens this week, and in preparation, HELLO! Online have decided to take a look back at some of the small screen's most beloved soap stars.

Soaps have always played a large part in British life, from the earliest kind on radio such as Front Line Family and The Archers, to Coronation Street in the 1960s, Emmerdale in the 1970s, the rise of soaps in the 1980s with Eastenders, Casualty, and Brookside, to Hollyoaks in the 1990s and Doctors and Waterloo Road in the 21st century.

Now Ian Beale, Annie Sugden, Deirdre Barlow and Dot Cotton are all household names, so take a look at our gallery for soap stars then and now...
