Irish actor Colin Farrell first found fame in BBC's Ballykissangel based around a young priest becoming part of his local community.
His first foray into the big screen was a year later with Tim Roth's The War Zone with Tilda Swinton, before taking on his first leading role in 2002's Phone Booth. It was a commercial success and critically well-received, and Colin was soon cast in ensemble drama S.W.A.T with Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Renner.
He later took on supporting roles in Minority Report with Tom Cruse and Daredevil with Ben Affleck, and then tried his hand at leading role status in a big budget movie.
The Oliver Stone epic Alexander, based on Alexander the Great, also starred Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer, received middling reviews but The New Story, the story of John Smith and Pocohantas went on to be nominated for an Academy Award.
In 2008 Colin starred in his most critically acclaimed film to date, the thriller In Bruges for which he won his first Golden Globe Award, and he later when on to star alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in the tale of Disney's Mary Poppins, Saving Mr Banks.
Colin has two sons from previous relationships.
