American actress Zoe Saldana was born in New Jersey to a Puerto Rican mother and a father from the Dominican Republic. The brunette beauty has often spoken of her pride in her Latin heritage, and she moved back to the Domincan Republic at the age of nine after her father passed away.
She had her first break at the age of 22 when she starred in the dance drama Center Stage in 2000, and it came after years of dance training and working with theatre groups across New York City. In 2003 she starred alongside Johnny Depp and Kiera Knightley in
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl as a female pirate. She later worked with Ashton Kutcher, Tom Hanks, and Orlando Bloom in various films.
