American actor Matt Damon broke through in 1997 when he co-wrote Good Will Hunting with his friend Ben Affleck.

The film was critically acclaimed and went on to win Matt and Ben an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, as well as co-star Robin Williams an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

The film, still universally beloved, showed Matt to be a leading star, and he was soon cast in Steven Spielberg's box office smash Saving Private Ryan.

In Dogma and The Talented Mr. Ripley Matt continued a string of hit films, but in the 2000s Matt turned his hand to franchise films, and found further fame with Ocean's Eleven with George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and the action thriller The Bourne Identity.

Despite starring in several commerically unsuccessful romcoms, Matt's ability to lead as well as support led to continued success with award-winning films The Good Shepard, The Departed, and Syriana.

As well as film Matt has also turned his hand to TV, starring in the hit comedy show 30 Rock with Tina Fey, and being internationally lauded for his performance in the TV film Behind the Candelabra.

Along with Brad, George, Don Cheedle, and others, Matt is the founder of the Not On Our Watch Project, which aims to bring global attention and resources to stop and prevent mass atrocities across the world.

Matt married Luciana Barraso in 2005 and the pair have four children together, Matt's step-daughter Alexia, and three daughters, Isabella, Gia, and Stella.
