The Globes further echoed the SAG Awards with nominations for Reese Witherspoon in Wild, Felicity Jones for The Theory of Everything, Julianne Moore in Still Alice, and Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl.

Julianne Moore followed in Benedict Cumberbatch's SAG footsteps and found herself with two nominations, for Still Alice, and for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for David Cronenberg's satire Map To The Stars.

Amy Adams, Meryl Streep, Dame Helen Mirren, and Quvenzhane Wallis join Julianne in the latter category.

Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture nominees included Steve Carell for his daring turn in Foxcatcher, David Oyelowo for American civil rights drama Selma, and Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, as well as Brit stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne, who are both expected to make strong showings at the BAFTAs and Oscars in 2015.

Benedict's co-star Keira Knightley, who is reportedly expecting her first child, also gained a nomination for her work in The Imitation Game. The film, which tells the true tale of Alan Turing, the code-breaker who broke the Enigma code at Bletchley Park, has swept the board with nominations for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Score.

Downton Abbey also scored big with nominations for Joanne Frogett, who plays head housemaid Anna in the ITV drama, in the Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television category, along with Allison Janney for Mom.
