The slow-burning romance between Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes has captured the hearts of Downton Abbey fans ever since they saw them first hold hands to paddle in the sea in the 2013 Christmas special. On Sunday, viewers will finally see the sweet couple tie the knot, with new photos released from the ITV show showing the happy newlyweds smiling outside the village church.
The butler and his bride can be seen dressed in their finest for their big day; Mrs Hughes, the housekeeper, wearing mauve, with her hair curled under a matching hat and carrying a bouquet as she links arms with her husband, who is smartly turned out in a grey three-piece suit.
Mrs Hughes (Phyllis Logan) was previously seen refusing to wed on the Downton estate - and it seems she got her wish, with a small church wedding. Last weekend's episode showed Carson (Jim Carter) and the well-meaning Crawley family attempting to persuade her to take advantage of the grand house for the ceremony, while she preferred something more befitting the couple's downstairs station.
Meanwhile, the makers of Downton Abbey were accused of giving away a major spoiler this week after an order of service for a wedding was found inside a church in Bampton, Oxfordshire after filming.
The prop included the name of the bride and groom, as well as the hymns, prayers and vows used in the service.
"The cast and crew of Downton have gone to great lengths to hide the storylines for the sixth and final series," a source told the Sun. "As it's the last one, there are going to be some absolutely massive plot lines. One of them is this wedding.
"It seems a bit ridiculous that all those security measures could be put in place and then someone just leaves an order of service lying around for anyone to find."
