Doctor Who actor Matt Smith shows off shaven head for role in Ryan Gosling's new film

Matt Smith, the usually floppy-haired Doctor Who star, debuted a rather different look 72nd annual Peabody Awards by revealing his new shaven 'do. Attending the ceremony in New York, Matt, 31, appeared alongside his beautiful co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman and writer Steven Moffat, who was awarded an Institutional Peabody "for evolving with technology and the times like nothing else in the known television universe".

Jenna joined Matt on the Doctor Who set in 2012 and has said that her role has led to a lot of "pinch-me" moments. "I have a really cool job and get to do these crazy things and you do have so many 'pinch me' moments. I've just been sent emails with pics of the Clara doll." At the event, Matt's new cut showed off the actor's pronounced features in addition to the slight scar he has on his forehead which was reportedly acquired as a child during an accident at nursery.The Doctor Who star has had his hair chopped off for his new role in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster was also spotted with his new shaven 'do earlier this month while on set in Michigan. While Matt has been careful not to give too much about the highly anticipated film, he recently disclosed on The Jonathan Ross Show that Ryan, as a writer, has produced a "really top film".Matt has also hinted that fans of Doctor Who can similarly expect a big surprise with the 50th anniversary special which is set to be filmed in 3D. "It will undoubtedly be the biggest and the best," said the actor, adding "There will be a number of aliens. It will certainly not disappoint".

However, we shouldn't have too long to wait to see another appearance from The Place Beyond the Pines actor either. Ryan is set to appear in another Cannes-bound film later this month with Drive director, Nichola Refn's latest film, Only God Forgives.
