You haven't got the answer to every question. You don't know it all. To some extent at least, you are guessing. I'm not saying this to be hurtful. I'm not even subtly implying criticism. I'm just telling it like it is because, well, it might as well be told like it is. None of us ever really benefits from kidding ourselves, and all of us are equally disadvantaged in our efforts to achieve omniscience. But none of that, in itself, disqualifies you from becoming the recipient of some short, sharp, flash of great intuitive wisdom today.

Born on March 10, 1958, to a factory worker and his wife in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Sharon Stone was a fast learner. Able to walk and talk by her first birthday, by the time she had gratuated from high school Sharon had started to land the top prize in beauty pageants and had won a writing scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania.

She majored in creative writing and fine arts, but her real love was acting. Using her beauty pageant money to hire an acting coach to help her hone her craft, in 1977 Sharon moved to New York, where she signed with the Ford agency and became one of the firm's top models.

Three years later Sharon's movie break came when Woody Allen cast her in Stardust Memories. Unfortunately many of her roles in the Eighties werre a series of forgettable parts - until she played Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife in Total Recall.

By the time she was cast in the controversial role of Catherine Tramell in 1992's Basic Instinct, she was well and truly on the Tinseltown radar - and in 1995, Sharon found herself Oscar-nominated and a Golden Globe winner for Martin Scorsese's classic gangster-flick Casino.

The star has received four Golden Globe nominations, including one in 1999 for her performance in The Muse, and in 2003 Sharon found herself with an Emmy Award to add to her mantelpiece - after only three episodes of TV drama The Practice.

In recent years Sharon has focused on the promotion of peace around the world. In 2006 she co hosted the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and travelled through Israel to iscuss the Middle East troubles with 1994 Nobel Peace prize winner Shimon Peres.

A passionate AIDS activist, Sharon is honorary chair of AmFAR, the high-profile charity formerly headed by Elizabeth Taylor, and in 2003 Sharon received the Peace Summit Award for her work with HIV/AIDS sufferers.

After her first marriage to TV producer Michael Greenburg came to an end, she found love again with journalist Phil Bronstein, marrying him in 1998.

Two years later the couple adopted a baby boy, Roan Joseph Bronstein, but they divorced in 2005. As a single mum Sharon went onto adopt two more boys - Laird Vonne Stone in 2005 and Quinn Kelly the following year.

In September 2001 Sharon suffered a major health scare when she was diagnosed with an aneurysm on the brain. She has since been given the all clear, but Sharon says her illness and the time off afterwards had a silver lining. "I don't have wants and desires now the way that I did before.

"I have more of a sense of gratitude."
