Arnold Schwarzenegger is best known for his high action roles in films including The Terminator and Predator, but the actor has tried his hand at something different in the new thriller Maggie, released in July.

The 67-year-old stars alongside Joely Richardson in the hotly anticipated film, which sees him play Wade Vogel, a father who supports his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) after she becomes infected with a disease that slowly turns her into a zombie.

Joely Richardson was impressed with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Maggie

Joely plays Wade's wife Caroline, and she couldn't have been more impressed with her co-star's acting skills, saying his transformation was "beautiful" to watch in HELLO! Online's exclusive video.

"There's something really beautiful about watching someone being outside their comfort zone, and I thought it was so brave," Joely admitted. "His background is, you know, blowing things up or being hysterically funny say in Twins, or fighting people. So here's a man, you know, sort of a screen icon trying to dig deep and just work through his eyes."

Arnold previously revealed that he felt compelled to star in the independent film, written by first-time screenwriter and director Henry Hobson, after discovering the script on the film industry's "black list" for the best unproduced screenplays.

"When I read it, I knew I had to do it," Arnold recalls in the film's production notes. "It is more vulnerable than any role I have played, more real, more emotional. You're used to seeing me play the ubermensch, the action hero bullets can't seem to hit.

"In Maggie, I am the everyman… dealing with the most basic concerns – protecting his family."
