While many of us spend Christmas relaxing and enjoying quality time with friends and family, in soaps it is usually a more dramatic affair. Fans of the big three – Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders – won't be disappointed this year as some of the biggest storylines are set to kick-off over Christmas and New Year.

From weddings to shock deaths, read on for spoilers of how Christmas will unfold on the cobbles, up in the Dales and down in Albert Square…

Coronation Street:

A Christmas proposal is on the cards for Tracy and Robert, but could her vengeful ex Rob stand in the way of their happiness? After summoning Robert to visit him in prison, Rob reveals that Tracy has been coming to see him in secret, leading the chef to think twice about the proposal.

An unsuspecting Tracy has already seen the engagement ring and pushes Rob to propose, but before he pops the question he challenges Tracy about her deception in a dramatic confrontation that leaves her hopes shattered.

A happier Christmas is in store for Fiz and Tyrone as Hope is allowed to come home from hospital in time to enjoy the winter wonderland they have arranged. The family's spirits are lifted even higher when Tyrone proposes to a delighted Fiz.

Watch the drama unfold at 7.45pm on ITV1, Christmas Day.

EastEnders:

The Beale and Mitchell families come together for Christmas dinner, and unsurprisingly it quickly descends into a chaotic confrontation as Sharon insists that Bobby is finally brought to justice for the murder of his sister Lucy. As the drama unfolds, the events lead to a dramatic car crash involving members of both families – and sadly not everyone will survive.
