The feel-good movie follows the story of James Bowen, a busker and recovering drug addict living in London. His life is transformed when Bob, a feline stray, wanders into his sheltered accommodation with an injured leg.

James takes Bob to the vet and nurses him back to health, and the pair strike up a close bond.

Inseparable, the adorable ginger cat remains at James' side and accompanies him on his busking journey around London.

The new trailer for the film shows the pair's touching story and unexpected friendship, which James documented in his book A Street Cat Named Bob, now a bestseller.

The author and former homeless man said he felt "honoured" that British actor Luke is playing him in the film, while Bob the cat stars as himself in the majority of scenes.

"He has been the absolute star in this film," James told the BBC. "He gave me a sense of purpose I suppose. He kept following me about and he wouldn't give up on me, so I didn't give up on myself."

"They had originally eight cats cast to play Bob and Bob wasn't supposed to be in the film," he explained. "I brought Bob along to the set and he basically became his own star in his own film.

"Five of the cats went back to Vancouver and three of the others stayed on for the other scenes because obviously Bob is my baby and I take care of him greatly so some other cats came in and helped Bob out. He just takes it in his stride. Knowing Bob and his wonderful ways I'm absolutely confident that he will broaden people's horizons."

"Bob just takes it in his stride," he added. "Luke and Bob have been getting on incredibly well so he's quite happy to ride on Luke's shoulders."
