Spoiler alert! This article contains spoilers for Wednesday night's GBBO.

Week two of The Great British Bake Off saw Mel Giedroyc present the show without her comedic partner Sue Perkins after she missed a week of presenting due to a family bereavement. Following the airing of the popular BBC show on Wednesday night, viewers were quick to praise Mel for keeping the show going on her own while sending well wishes to Sue following her sad news.

Although fans of the show were initially disappointed that the show would go ahead without Sue, with one tweeting: "So Sue isn't on bake off tonight. Think I'm gonna cry!," while another wrote: "More bothered about the lack of info on Sue's whereabouts than lack of info when my trains are delayed," they were hugely supportive of Mel's solo presenting skills.

One wrote: "The one where we really missed @sueperkins but @MelGiedroyc was on top form," while another tweeted: "Mel Giedroyc steps up superbly in tonight's Sue-less #GBBO. Funny funny funny."

Week two was biscuit week in the show, leading the contestants to bake patterned biscuits, Viennese whirls in the technical challenge and a gingerbread structure in the showstopper challenge.

Louise was the second contestant to leave the show

Candice received star baker of the week for her gingerbread pub, while Louise was the second contestant to leave the show after she dropped her biscuits in the first challenge and her gingerbread church collapsed at the last moment for the showstopper.

Fearne Cotton was among those wishing Louise well, writing: "Ah poor Louise. I have done that so many time. Oven glove clumsy vibes. So annoying. I'm going to invent a slim line oven mitt! #GBBO," while BBC One's Twitter account joked: "Looks like Louise may need to organise a fundraiser for her church roof (and walls…)."
