Victoria has been given the royal seal of approval!

According to Daisy Goodwin, scriptwriter of the ITV show, the royal family are among the millions of viewers who have tuned in to watch the period drama, which stars Jenna Coleman.

It follows the story of the Queen's great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria, who came to the throne aged 18, so it's no surprise that the programme has piqued her family's interest.

"I know someone who is a very old friend of the Queen's and I was told that the royal family is enjoying it hugely," Daisy told the Daily Star. "Whether that means the Queen is enjoying it, I don't know.

"But I know that other people in her circles are enjoying it."

ITV recently confirmed that a second series of Victoria will air next year, following the show's immense success. The Sunday night prime-time drama has been a ratings winner, pulling in an average of 7.7 million viewers each week.

Jenna will reprise her role as the young Queen Victoria, starring opposite her Prince Albert, played by Tom Hughes, her real-life boyfriend.

But that's not all. Fans will also be treated to a Christmas 2017 special, although ITV rejected the offer to schedule one for this year.

Daisy revealed: "We did offer them one for this year but they went, 'Umm…' I don't think they knew how big the show was going to become. I wish we had one this year. I bet they are wishing they had one now but we will have one for next year."

The second series will follow Victoria as she learns how to balance raising children with her duties as a wife and as a monarch.
