Sir Bradley Wiggins might have announced his retirement from professional cycling last week, but it seems he still has one more sporting challenge left to face. The 36-year-old is taking part in the 2017 series of Channel 4's winter sports show, The Jump, alongside the likes of fellow Olympian Louis Smith and model Caprice Bourret.

The last series of the show was beset by injuries, with competitors Beth Tweddle, Tina Hobley and Rebecca Adlington among those suffering serious physical damage. But that hasn't stopped 14 new celebrities from signing up this year.

Joining Sir Bradley on the slopes are Emma Parker Bowles, the niece of the Duchess of Cornwall, Olympic Taekwondo champion Jade Jones, Paralympian Kadeena Cox, reality stars Lydia Bright and Josie Gibson, and models Vogue Williams and Caprice.

They will compete against rugby players Gareth Thomas and Jason Robinson, former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, footballer Robbie Fowler and comedian Mark Dolan.

Of his decision to sign up, Sir Bradley said: "Skiing is a big passion of mine, it was a mix of that and the other committed names this year that made me want to sign up.

Olympian Louis Smith is also among the competitors

"From Jason Robinson and Robbie Fowler to Olympians Louis Smith and Jade Jones, these guys have excelled in the sporting arena and I have a lot of respect for them, they will be so competitive.

"Major retiring Olympians such as Sir Steve Redgrave have also trod this path. I see this as a sporting challenge and want to go out there and win it. Just don't call me a celebrity."

The Jump will return to Channel 4 in early 2017, hosted by Davina McCall.
