Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to hit back at Meryl Streep following her fiery Golden Globes speech. The President-elect wrote to his 19.2million followers: "Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes." He then added: "She is a Hillary flunky who lost big."

Meryl was honoured at Sunday's ceremony with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, and in her explosive six-minute speech, she criticised the future president for mocking disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski in November 2015 during a campaign rally.

Meryl Streep criticised Donald Trump in her Golden Globes acceptance speech

"It kind of broke my heart, and I saw it, and I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.

That instinct to humiliate, when it's modelled by someone in a public platform, it filters down into everyone's life because it gives permission for others to do the same," she told the A-list audience.

"Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose."

The President-elect took to Twitter in the early hours on Monday morning to hit back

In his early morning Twitter post on Monday, Mr Trump also denied that he had been mocking Mr Kovaleski. "For the 100th time, I never 'mocked' a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him 'grovelling' when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!" he wrote.
