This Morning has paid tribute to late agony aunt Denise Robertson, just one year on from her death. The TV star, who passed away at the age of 83 after losing her battle with cancer last year, was remembered by her only son Mark Robertson during Friday’s instalment of the ITV daytime show. Recalling a moment when he woke up in the middle of the night to see his mother on TV. Mark revealed it was difficult to see the footage of her. "In time they'll be a boon to me," he explained.

"But occasionally it can be very hard. My mum hadn't been dead long and I fell asleep in front of the telly. It [a TV show] was something I didn't know she'd done, and when I woke up she was on it, at 2-3am I heard her voice and there was mum." Denise had appeared on This Morning since the show's very first episode in 1988 as the resident agony aunt. She revealed her cancer diagnosis last February, and her death was announced the following month.

When asked if he would carry on his mother’s legacy, Mark replied: "I'm not nearly as strong enough or as good as my mum to do that. But I’m doing what I can." He added: "She was strong enough that she didn't mind sending herself up." Overcome with emotion, Mark then thanked viewers for the ongoing support over the past 12 months. "If I could thank This Morning, and also the viewers, the love that was shown when mum died was a big thing."
STORY: Denise Robertson's funeral set to take place
Denise had released a statement after she revealed she had been diagnosed with the disease. Her statement, which was read out by host Ruth Langsford at the time, read: "I'm sorry I've not been around for a couple of weeks but a persistent health issue has turned into something quite a lot bigger. I've been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It has come as a surprise to me and my family but we know that many others have suffered and dealt with this condition and I don't plan to give up without a fight. My doctor is referring me for chemotherapy and hopefully that will start soon. I'd like to thank all the lovely viewers of This Morning who have been concerned about my health recently and I hope I'll be back on the sofa soon."
