Ant and Dec are making dreams come true. The popular presenting duo have confirmed that SMTV Live will return for a 20th anniversary special next year. Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly told reporters at the BAFTA TV awards that the much-loved children's show is making a comeback for a one-off special. "ITV have just agreed," said Ant. "It's going to go ahead and it'll be in August 2018, 20 years after it aired."

Dec added: "They are onboard now, and we have had our first discussions about it, and it looks like it is going to go ahead. We can't say too much but we're getting the team back together. It'll be on Saturday morning again at 9.25." Ant went on to say that filming wouldn't take place in the original studio as "it's all getting changed around", but insisted, "we are getting the team back together."

Ant and Dec confirmed the news at the BAFTA TV awards

It's likely that Ant and Dec will be joined by Cat Deeley, who made regular appearances on the morning show. Cat, who is based in Los Angeles where she hosts So You Think You Can Dance, has previously hinted about a reunion. Revealing her enthusiasm, she told Press Association in February: "I think it would be a great idea. It's been 20 years. I think it's about time, isn't it, for all those with a misspent youth? It was normally the Friday night that was the misspent youth and they woke up on the Saturday morning, slightly hungover."

Cat Deeley is expected to return for the anniversary special

The trio recently got together for Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway grand finale at Disney World Orlando. Speaking on stage, Ant said: "Now Cat, that will be 20 years next year, I reckon – we were talking – we should do a 20-year reunion next year." After pretending to deliberate, Cat, 40, agreed, leaving the crowds cheering in excitement.
