How to recreate the two-tone nail trend at home

A multi-tonal manicure is the latest way to do nail art, without the intricate detailing or the steady hand necessary for drawing on designs. We spotted the Ombre effect backstage at Fashion week, with models at Rebecca Taylor sporting vampy talons with rich burgundy graduated into gunmetal grey, whilst at Osham, cobalt blue faded into black.

We loved the foolproof technique and instant style update it gave to a monotone mani - stick to darker colours to avoid the rainbow effect, choosing two shades that compliment each other or your outfit.

HELLO! Fashion
takes a look at how to recreate the ombre nail trend at home...

1. Base coat
2. 2 nail polishes
3. A small sponge
4. Nail topcoat

1. Prep nails and paint on your base coat.

2. Apply one coat of the shade you wish to start with, without letting this dry.

3. Using your sponge, apply two thick lines to both polishes to the sponge and then blot over the tip of the nail, repeating until you have the desired ombre effect.

4. Finish with a colour-sealing topcoat

For a low-commitment alternative, try out the trend before painting with the Elegant Touch Press-on Nails in Ombre Merlot, £7.10.

All the work is done for you, just press on each nail with the adhesive tabs provided and admire your handiwork for upto a week after.
