The key to red carpet-ready make-up

Share this:

Awards season kicks off with the prestigious Golden Globes this weekend – and we're more than excited to see what beauty looks the celebs will be rocking on the red carpet. While it may often seem effortless, a lot of time, thought and effort goes into creating the stars' beauty looksAvon Global make-up artist Liz Pugh talks us through the process...

A lot of time, effort and thought goes into red carpet beauty looks

"When I am working with a client for an awards ceremony or red carpet event the starting point to work from is always the dress. The makeup must always balance the dress and work with the hair. "The key for me for creating a red carpet look is to make the skin look beautiful so the make-up picks up well on camera. I always want to enhance the actress’ beauty and prefer to play up one feature, whether it’s the eyes or lips. "Attention to detail is so important for red-carpet and that can be something as simple as the way I apply the mascara. I love using AVON Mega Effects mascara – it really increases the volume of the lashes without clumping at all. "The look has to be flawless and I predict that contouring will be a stand out trend on the red carpet this season. The key is to pick out highlights in the skin, especially top of the cheekbones and T-bar area to really make the skin come to life. The AVON Ideal Luminous Shimmer Block works really well for highlighting. "If my client is wearing a dark dress, I love to add a pop of color to the lips, a bright red or deep plum, always applied impeccably as you need it to really hold with all the red carpet interviews. "If the dress has a lot of color then I would keep the face more neutral, free from too much colour, beautiful contouring on the cheeks teamed with a warm Smokey eye and a soft pretty lip, picking out tones from the dress."
