Vixen & Blush founder Sarah McKenna's unique success story

We've already waxed lyrical about Vixen & Blush, the hair extension salon that we swear by. And it seems that many others are catching on – founder Sarah McKenna is opening a new brand of the salon on Great Titchfield Street.

Sarah has enjoyed great success since opening her first salon in Shoreditch in 2011. And we were taken aback to hear the story of how it all began – with a Biochemistry degree! Intrigued? Read on to find out more...

Sarah opened her first after three years spent researching and developing her hair extensions methods and sourcing the best hair in the world.

And it was her background as a scientist that allowed her to fine-tune the more technical elements of hair extensions, a notably tricky process.

Having graduated from University College Dublin in 2005 with a BSc (Hons) in biochemistry and holding the undergraduate award for Excellence in Research Sarah moved to the UK and entered a career in the pharmaceutical industry. But in 2008, Sarah decided to apply her training and experience to a completely new venture.

It was in 2008 at the age of 25 that Sarah began to look for a solution for her own very fine hair. She decided to have hair extensions and sought out a reputable salon in London that could offer a good service. Unfortunately, Sarah was very disappointed with what was on offer and this marked the start of Sarah’s obsession to find a better way of creating good quality hair extensions that look natural.

Sarah then trained as a hairdresser and in 2010 she travelled the world to source the best quality hair. Sarah soon developed a method that allows hair extensions to be customised according to the client’s hair type. Her goal was to make hair extensions look flawlessly natural so that professional women across London would be happy to wear hair extensions without being concerned that they would be detectable or look false.

Having the ability to offer women a more sophisticated way of adding length and volume to their hair is what drives her to excel in the hair and beauty industry.
