City pollution can have an ageing effect on the skin – it damages the collagen that helps skin to stay elastic and prevents wrinkles.
According to Dr Jules Nabet, one of London's leading cosmetic doctors, people who live in cities experience a higher rate of skin ageing than those who reside in the countryside.
So what can city-dwellers do to prevent this premature ageing? Dr Nabet told us that "cleaning the skin is of utmost importance – make sure you cleanse and exfoliate to get rid of dead surface skin, dirt and polluion."
He also recommended collagen-boosting products and treatments, as well as SPF. "Protecting the skin is key, so always wear a high factor SPF under your moisturiser and choose moisturising skincare with free radicals such as antioxidants and vitamins," he said.
"Another good tip is to hydrate during the day with a spritzer. If you can, have regular facials to really deep clean the skin."
Dr Nabet has recently launched a new treatment, the City Skin Buster, to help city-dwellers' skin from ageing.
A dual-action treatment, it combines a facial and peel that deep-cleans the skin for a dew, radiant result.
The City Skin Buster is priced from £220 per treatment and lasts 90 minutes. For more information visit julesnabet.com.
