Contouring and colour: the best of beauty for Spring 2013

Share this:

The fun-filled fashion weeks of London, New York, Paris and Milan for Spring/Summer 2013 brought an abundance of innovative and inspirational beauty trends to keep many makeup addict on their toes. As we put away the glitter-filled nail polishes and palettes of plum, ebony and festive red it's about time for a seasonal spring clean in our cosmetic cases to celebrate the New Year rolling in – providing no less than a perfect excuse to invest in a post-Christmas treat.

So before you replenish your makeup bag, see our favourite beauty trends to watch out for this Spring

Beginning at the Base

After months of trying to re-create a natural base using minimal products, there was nothing other than immaculately perfected skin across the board among this season's catwalk. It's all about achieving a delicate velvet finish that exudes healthy radiance without appearing overly powdered. To make the most of your flawless finish take a turn back to the 90s with inspiration from the Rag & Bone catwalk where pared-down makeup met groomed brows and slicked-back tresses for an overall effortless effect. Alternatively, build on the basics and experiment with contouring to add a touch of sunshine to chiselled cheekbones as seen on model of the moment Cara Delevingne at the Dolce & Gabbana show.

Make Colour Matte

It's been a long-time favourite amongst the sophisticated fashionistas and this season the grown-up matte lip is here to stay.

Clear away berry-red pigments and embrace lollipop coloured lips for a refreshing step into Spring. Neon pink, heavenly fuchsia, and tropical coral were among the tones that injected seasonal warmth to the catwalks of Paris and Milan.

Let's Talk about Lashes

For simply showstopping eye makeup ensure both lash lines are coated and take inspiration from the bewitching smokey eyes which are essential for evenings out this season.

The secret staple for any makeup artist creating an eye-popping effect is to play with colour across the lower lash lines. Neutral nudes and whites give a wide-awake look and this year Stella McCartney jazzed this trick up by adding a slick of emerald green.

To inject a touch of innovation to this classic look, play around with different dark tones and colours. We love the touch of on-trend colbalt blue seen backstage on the Jeremy Scott runway which is layered upon charcoal and dazzling bronze. Just remember to blend for a seamless, worn-in effect.
