The Milestone Hotel
The Milestone hotel topped the UK hotel category of the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards earlier this year – and it's not hard to see why.
With carved window frames and impeccably manicured greenery, the appearance of the 19th century Townhouse hotel – situated on Kensington Road, opposite Hyde Park – is stunning.
Inside is just as visually appealing – black and white marble floors, cosy Victorian sitting rooms and elaborate decoration provides a welcome escape from the city outside.
If you can, opt for a suite. They are opulent, decadent and cater for every whim – you won't want to leave. Four-poster beds with mounds of pillows and fur throws, seating areas with chaises longues and mini chocolates and fully equipped en suite bathrooms make staying at the Milestone hotel an absolute treat. Not to mention the stunning views of Hyde Park.
The service is second-to-none – nothing is too big an ask and every single need – and want – is catered for without fuss or bother. One of the most standout members of staff is the lovely Augustine, a Portuguese waiter with a plethora of stories about the iconic hotel.
The restaurant is a highlight of the hotel, situated in a cosy sitting room-style abode. The food offers comfort food favourites from the owner, Mrs Bea Tollman. Details make the experience – five types of butter, three different types of salt and a selection of olive oils. And the food is exceptional – for starters, we recommend the scrambled eggs, served in their shells and featuring three different toppings including caviar and potted shrimp. Choose kobe beef to follow.
Housed in the basement of one of London's most famous hotels, the Dorchester spa is a serene and tranquil setting designed for instant unwinding.
A massage tackled our knotted shoulders with great results, leaving us refreshed and recharged – helped along by the soft massage bed and soothing music.
You can take your relaxation one step further post-treatment in the relaxation room, boasting velvet chaises longues, refreshments and magazines.
As well as traditional treatments, the spa is also offering a Winter Sun package – designed to get you prepped for a winter getaway with a luxury manicure and pedicure and a skincare treatment (£235, available from 23 November to 24 December).
And it's not all about the ladies – gift the man in your life the brand new, deeply moisturising Valmont facial.
If it's old-school glamour you're after, the Dorchester's the hotel for you.
Nestled in leafy Park Lane, overlooking Hyde Park, the Dorchester is one of the capital's most iconic hotels.
Fleets of sleek black cars with tinted windows grace the entrance to the hotel, dropping off glamorous guests who swish through the revolving doors to enter the grand destination.
Decadent and opulent – not to mention its history of celebrity clientele including Prince Philip, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton – it's no surprise the Dorchester is renowned the world over.
The rooms are typically British and eclectic, but the piece de resistance are the Park View Suites.
Offering stunning views of Hyde Park, as the name would suggest, the space boasts a wood-panelled sitting room with a dining area – and a study area, for business travellers – an ensuite marble bathroom and an extra spacious guest bathroom.
The four-poster bedroom features opulent drapes and a mountain of pillows – making getting up the next day a pretty tough task.
The Promenade, a long, luxurious stretch of decadent tables and chairs peppered with stunning floral displays, is another highlight of the hotel. Offering spectacular all day dining – including the super popular afternoon tea – the Promenade has live entertainment and is the place to people watch.
Situated on London's South Bank, the Park Plaza is within walking distance of the city's most iconic attractions, including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the London Aquarium.
But its stand-out features don't just lie with its location – the contemporary, design-led hotel boasts spacious and fully equipped guest rooms with stunning views.
We loved the room service breakfast in particular, scoffed as we looked out over Big Ben...
