Nail trends for autumn 2018: The nail colours you should we wearing for your next manicure

Which will you covet this season?

Share this:

After what feels like the longest (and hottest) summer ever, autumn is finally upon us. The air has a subtle crisp chill, the leaves are beginning to tinge at the edges and the kids are officially back at school. Of course, the latter in this list may not be the best but what comes with autumn is always welcome. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, big, cosy cable knitwear, an air of hope and of course new and improved beauty products to suit the change of weather. The one we're most excited about? All the amazing new nail trends coming out this season.

Here are the ones we'll be coveting for our next manicure…

Deep Red Nails

Admittedly deep reds do tend to be a staple when the weather gets colder but every year nonetheless we get just as excited about asking our manicurist to go for a dark rouge rather than a neon coral come September.

Seen on the runway at Peter Pilotto, Temperley, Badgley Mischka and Chocheng, this year the shades ranged from tinged scarlet to moody berries and red-blacks and the good news is - these colours are seriously easy to source whether you want a bargain buy or a high-end label. We love Collection Lasting Gel Nail Polish Vixen Red (£3.19), Revlon Nail Enamel Cherries in the Snow (£6.49) and of course, the ever-iconic Chanel Rouge Noir (£22).

Nude

Most assume nude is a spring-and-summer-only colour. I mean, after all, it works great with a tan and is perfect for wedding season but this year, it's getting year-round appeal.

Roland Mouret, Kate Spade, Bottega Veneta, Philipp Plein, Alexander Wang Tom Ford all used it in their shows for the upcoming season and it really looked incredible. If you want to covet this trend in the colder months, opt for a light mocha, a transparent gel or a matte opaque deep beige and you'll be right on target.

Noir

Often dark colours are typically red-toned or plummy during this season but this year Sonia Rykiel, Antonio Marras, Vionnet and Gareth Pugh proved straight up black is what's required.

At Sonia Rykiel and Antonio Marras it was all about that glossy black that was in during the '90s (the one you'd buy at the likes of Claire's Accessories). At Vionnet it was a gorgeous navy-tinged, metallic finished noir and at Gareth Pugh high-gloss, opaque charcoal stole the show.

Hesitant? We suggest you give it a try - they all look pretty glam.

Blue

Blue, who knew? Yes, this unlikely colour is going to popular in a whole range of shades. At Emporio Armani and Phillip Lim teal proved huge and wow, we love it as a dark nail alternative. At Gareth Pugh it was all about as-vibrant-as-you-can-get electric blue and at Marco De Vincenzo baby blue was the shade of the day.

Metallic

The fun thing about this trend, seen at Each x Other, Cividini, Naeem Khan, is that you can introduce it with any colour. It was seen in gold, pink, green, yellow, red, champagne and black on the runway meaning it will suit any skin tone.

Our favourite metallics out there at the moment include Barry M Molten Metal Glitter Nail Polish in Blue Glacier (£3.99), NARS Nail Polish in Milos (£15), Essie Galaxy 2017 521 Stardust (£7.99).

Go get 'em.
