Insider tips for party hair

Cheat your way to style and substance

Ojon's Rub Out Cleanser offers an instant way to refresh hair

After a hard day at work, altering your office hairstyle so it's ready for a festive party is rarely easy. But there are a couple of tricks experts use to give instant oomph, as we found out from former British Hairdresser Of The Year Lisa Shepherd.

"Shine alone can make any look go from drab to fab in seconds," she states, recommending Frederic Fekkai Glossing Sheer Shine Mist, £18, from Space NK -

"I love this one," Lisa says. "It gives a long-lasting, glam shine and leaves hair soft, glossy and manageable."

She also recommends dry shampoo, which as well as absorbing oiliness when you haven't time for a wash and blowdry, is great for giving substance to locks.

By making hair thicker and more controllable – because it coats and mattefies – it stops hair falling flat or slipping out of grips and slides when you're dressing it up. "It gives body to fine or flat hair," Lisa confirms.

We like Rub Out Dry Cleanser, £16, from the Ojon Hair range, which is fortified with Ojon oil, an ingredient used by Central America's Tawira tribe to keep their hair healthy and glossy looking.

It revives, refreshes and recharges hair without water using white clay, silk powder, rice and potato starches to absorb dirt and oiliness and volumise hair at the roots.
