Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson is the latest celebrity to go for the chop and cut her long glossy locks into a sleek new bob. The 25-year-old unveiled her fresh new look whilst making the most of the sunshine in New York City and running errands.

The brunette beauty was virtually unrecognisable as she stepped out rocking the straight and shoulder-length style, a stark contrast to her usually long tousled locks. It is the first time that the 21 Jump Street actress has dramatically changed her look, however she has kept her trademark fringe, which she left slightly dishevelled for a grungy yet chic contrast to her sleek new 'do.

It wasn't just the Dakota's hair which caught fans' attention. The American star looked effortlessly cool as she hit the streets in an all-black ensemble, teamed with a structured grey coat. She completed the look with a pair of patent burgundy brogues, and added a touch of retro chic with a pair of rounded sunglasses.

The drastic new look could mark a fresh new start for the young starlet, following the news that she reportedly split from Welsh musican Matthew Hitt back in February. The last time the couple were photographed together in public was last December in New York, where he has lived since 2011. Matthew, who is the lead singer and guitarist with indie rock band Drowners, was not by Dakota's side as she toured the world promoting Fifty Shades of Grey. It's thought the pressure of the tour took its toll on the couple. A source told Us weekly that her life was "getting too crazy and it wasn't something he wanted to be part of".

The young beauty, whose father is Miami Vice star Don Johnson, spoke to Vogue recently about being in the eye of the whirlwind. "I think about my dwindling anonymity," she told the magazine. "And that's really scary because a very large part of me would be perfectly happy living on a ranch in Colorado and having babies and chickens and horses – which I will do anyway."
